Welcome to the Hand Hygiene New Zealand website

Our message is simple: Clean hands save lives.

Hand hygiene is one of the most important measures in the fight against healthcare associated infections (HAIs), making it a key patient safety issue within New Zealand hospitals.

Performing hand hygiene correctly at each of the five internationally recognised moments reduces the risk that infectious organisms will be spread between patients on the hands of healthcare workers.

Hand Hygiene New Zealand (HHNZ) is one of three components of the Health Quality & Safety Commission’s Infection Prevention Control programme, which aim to improve patient safety by reducing healthcare associated infections.

Please take a moment to look around our website. We have a wealth of news, information and resources designed to raise awareness of the importance of hand hygiene to patient safety, as well as to highlight how and when hand hygiene should occur.
